Ammonia and Nitrite are toxic compounds formed from the breakdown of fish waste and will harm fish and invertebrates. The filter bacteria convert these into harmless nitrate. Ammonia and nitrite are most likely to increase when the aquarium is first set up, after a thorough clean down of the filtration system or after treatment with certain medications which may affect the filter bacteria. This Marine Water testing kit contains approximately 80 tests.
